This order prohibits the sale and use of fireworks which are classified as “skyrockets with sticks” or “missiles with fins.”
SAN ANTONIO — Before you head out to buy your fireworks for New Year’s Eve make note of this! Some fireworks are being prohibited from being sold or used in Bexar County due to drought conditions in our area.
The Bexar County Commissioners Court confirmed an order prohibiting the sale and use of fireworks classified as “skyrockets with sticks” or “missiles with fins.” The ban on the two types of fireworks goes into effect immediately and is in effect until March 10.
All other legally sold consumer fireworks can still be used. Violations of the order are considered a class C misdemeanor with fines not to exceed $500.
The Bexar County Fire Marshal’s Deputies will have tips available at the fireworks stands in unincorporated Bexar County.
Remember: Enjoy – Soak – Drain – Wrap – Trash
And remember to “Designate a Douser” if you are planning on handling fireworks this New Years Day.
Other safety tips include:
- Consuming alcoholic beverages and handling fireworks don’t mix.
- Keep kids at a safe distance. Only adults should handle fireworks.
- Keep a water hose or bucket of water nearby and readily accessible.
- Only buy fireworks from licensed vendors!
- Consider attending a professional fireworks display.
