This is the second time in the past year the jail has been found to be out of compliance with state standards.
BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — The Bexar County jail was deemed noncompliant by the Texas Commission on Jail Standards (TCJS), county officials say–at least the second time it was found to be below state standards in the past year.
According to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, the county was notified by TCJS on Tuesday that the west-side facility would be considered out of compliance. The news comes a week after TCJS arrived for an unannounced inspection of the Bexar County Adult Detention Center “as part of their oversight responsibilities,” BCSO said.
TCJS officials highlighted one specific “deficiency” related to a “file that lacked sufficient detail”; it’s unknown what material in the file pertains to. But BCSO is required to provide the state with a plan of action by Sept. 27.
BCSO said inspectors also noted “two technical assistance requests” regarding multiple scratched mirrors in the facility’s bathrooms, as well as “inoperable mics.” The inspectors also reported a broken “purge fan,” which BCSO says was quickly repaired.
