Bexar County leaders to be joined by Spurs, rodeo staff for State of the County address

Wednesday’s State of the County address will be held at 8 a.m. at The Westin San Antonio North.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs and the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo staff are joining Judge Peter Sakai for his State of the County address.

The address will take place Wednesday morning at The Westin Hotel on the northwest side.

The Judge Sakai says he has high hopes for what San Antonio can look like working with these two organizations.

The county and these organizations have been holding town halls for weeks talking about what Prop A and B can do for the city and county.

For context, Proposition A is making upgrades to the Frost Bank Center and Freeman Coliseum.

That’ll be $193 million and that money will come from hotel tax and tourism sales.

County leaders have said time and time again; this would not increase property taxes for homeowners.

The second proposition is for the county to give $311 million to help build a new Spurs arena in the Project Marvel plan.

The city had a meeting on Tuesday in District 6 on and has another one in District 10 on Thursday.

The new Spurs arena would cost $1.3 billion and the city would fund $489 million, or 38% of the project. The city would also use money through hotel and tourism fees.

The rest would be paid through the Spurs paying the city rent for the new arena and property taxes, gathered with the Spurs promising new construction downtown.

Wednesday’s State of the County address will be held at 8 a.m.
