Bexar County officials respond to missing jury duty scam

Bexar County Jury Services is warning against a fraudulent scam targeting residents.

SAN ANTONIO — The Bexar County Public Information Office released a statement in response to a scam that is targeting Bexar County citizens regarding missed jury duty.

According to the release, the Central Jury Services Department received several phone calls from residents reporting calls they received claiming they missed jury duty and therefore have an outstanding warrant for their arrest for failure to appear for jury duty.

The scammers reportedly threaten the person, saying law enforcement will come to arrest them if they don’t pay a fine. Callers reported that those requested payments ranged from $2,000 to $4,000.

The county is warning residents not to fall for that scam, saying their central jury office will never call to notify about failure to appear for jury duty.

“This office does not solicit money,” Bexar County officials said in a statement. “The only action taken, when a resident fails to show for jury duty, is a letter is mailed out to those that have summoned.”

Anyone with questions or those who have been contacted by someone about missing jury duty, is urged to call the Central Jury Department at (210) 864-6677.
