SAN ANTONIO — Bexar County officials are warning taxpayers that a recent change by the U.S. Postal Service could impact mailed tax payments.
The Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office says payments are processed based on the USPS postmark date, but that date may now reflect when mail is handled at a regional processing center, not when it was dropped off.
“This may affect all your payments, including potentially those to the IRS,” said Tax Assessor-Collector Albert Uresti.
To avoid penalties, officials recommend requesting a hand-stamped postmark at the post office or mailing payments early. You can also pay your property taxes online or by phone at 1-888-852-3572.
All county tax offices will be open until 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2, with curbside and drive-thru options available at select locations. After-hours drop boxes are also available.
If you need need more information or want to confirm the amount due, visit the Tax Office website at www.bexar.org/tax, or call the Tax Office at (210) 335-2251.
