
San Antonio honors Black History Month with diverse events highlighting African American culture, from jazz concerts and art markets to educational film screenings.
SAN ANTONIO — February marks Black History Month, a time for reflection, education and a nationwide celebration of the contributions and legacy of African American culture.
This year’s theme is “A Century of Black History Commemorations,” marking the 100th anniversary of the inaugural Negro History Week established by Dr. Carter G. Woodson in 1926.
Here in San Antonio, there are several events to honor and celebrate Black history.

Spus Black Heritage Night
The Spurs take on the Mavericks during Black Heritage Night, presented by Spectrum, on Saturday, Feb. 7, in honor of Black History Month. MORE INFO HERE.

Black History Month Movie Series: Ruby Bridges
Visit the Great Northwest Library for a special screening of “Ruby Bridges”, the inspiring story of the brave six‑year‑old who became the first African American child to integrate her New Orleans elementary school. Black History Jazz Concert

Black History Art Market
The San Antonio African American Community Archive and Museum (SAAACAM) honors the 100th anniversary of Black History Month with a celebration of Black art and artists across Southwest Texas. Explore powerful exhibitions that bring ancestral stories to life, then step into a lively market in La Villita showcasing contemporary creators, live music, crafts, and unique keepsakes. Black Restaurant Week

SAAACAM River Boat Tour
