Black History Month is an annual tradition dating back to the 1920’s.
SAN ANTONIO — This year’s theme of Black History Month is “African Americans and the Arts.” The Association on the study of African American life and history says this theme commemorates how art is used as a platform for social justice and celebrates the artists who used their crafts to uplift the race and inspire a nation.
Black History Month is an annual tradition dating back to the 1920’s.
Here in San Antonio, there are several events to honor and celebrate Black history.

Trade Talks: Buffalo Soldiers
Following the end of the Civil war, the United States Congress established the first peacetime all-black regiments in the US Army in 1866. The regiments were formed to serve in the American West and became some of the most elite and highly decorated units in the US Army. Drop in and hear the Bexar County Buffalo Soldiers talk about the history of Buffalo Soldiers in Texas and will have an artifact table for visitors to engage with.
