Body cam footage shows Kendall County deputy-involved shooting in motel parking lot

The video, released Wednesday, shows Deputy Russell arriving at the scene and confronting a man later identified as Sean Seale.

COMFORT, Texas — The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office has released body camera video showing the moment a deputy exchanged gunfire with a suspect in a motel parking lot early Sunday morning.

The shooting happened just before 1 a.m. at a motel along North Highway 87 in Comfort after the Boerne Police Department’s dispatch center received a call about several men fighting and reports that shots had been fired.

The video, released Wednesday, shows Deputy Russell arriving at the scene and confronting a man later identified as Sean Seale. According to the sheriff’s office, Seale immediately fired at the deputy. The deputy returned fire, striking Seale.

Authorities said the footage is brief but captures the moment the deputy arrives and the gunfire begins. The video released to the public stops before Seale is seen being hit.

After the shooting, deputies rendered medical aid to Seale at the scene. He was later transported by helicopter to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, where he remains in critical condition, officials said.

Deputy Russell was not injured.

Seale faces pending charges including attempted capital murder of a peace officer and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The sheriff’s office said Seale was a fugitive at the time of the incident and had multiple outstanding warrants.

The shooting remains under investigation.
