Body found near where missing 19-year-old Camila Olmos was last seen in northwest Bexar County

While the sheriff says he can’t confirm the body is Camila just yet, Ssalazar did say the clothes on the body match the description Camila’s mom gave authorities.

SAN ANTONIO — Investigators discovered a body and a firearm Tuesday afternoon in a field in northwest Bexar County, not far from where a missing 19-year-old woman was last seen on Christmas Eve.

Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said authorities believe the body could possibly be that of Camila Mendoza Olmos, though final identification is still pending confirmation from the medical examiner.

While Salazar said he cannot officially confirm the identity at this time, he noted the clothing on the body matches the description provided by Camila’s mother.

The discovery was made just before 5 p.m. on private property owned by a landscaping company off FM 1560, close to the area where Camila was last seen.

Throughout the search, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office was aware that a firearm belonging to a family member was missing. Investigators believe Camila took the gun with her on the morning of Christmas Eve. Officials have not confirmed whether that firearm was recovered Tuesday.

Camila was last believed to have been seen on dashcam footage walking near her home. Earlier that morning, she was also captured on a home surveillance camera standing in the driveway near her car.

Sheriff Salazar said the FBI assisted investigators by examining Camila’s phone and iPad, which were left behind at her home.

“This was a young person going through a very tough time in their life and going through some emotional issues,” Salazar said. “There were some indicators of suicidal ideations as well.”

In a Facebook post Tuesday, New Burnin’ Bush LLC, the company that owns the property where the body was found, expressed concern and prayers for the family. The business announced it would close on December 31 out of respect for the investigation and those involved.

The company also stated it is cooperating with investigators and plans to allow members of the public onto the property to pay their respects once the investigation is complete.

Authorities are still awaiting official word from the medical examiner regarding the identity of the person found and the cause of death.
