Body found with gunshot wound in burning New Braunfels home, officials say

Kennedy Miguel Herrejon, 37, had suffered from an apparent gunshot wound as well as burn injuries when officials found him in the home.

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas — An investigation is taking place in New Braunfels as a man’s body was discovered in a burning house Monday with a gunshot wound.

At about 2:30 p.m., the New Braunfels Fire Department was called to a home in the 2600 block of McCrae for a structure fire.

When they arrived, they found a two-story home engulfed with heavy smoke.

Crews were able to enter the home but were met with high heat conditions as the fire had spread into the subfloor between the first and second story. This resulted in an external attack.

Officials say residents of the home were not initially there but arrived while crews were fighting the fire.

Once the fire was under control, a man’s body was found. He has since been identified as Kennedy Miguel Herrejon, 37.

Herrejon had suffered from an apparent gunshot wound as well as burn injuries. Preliminary evidence also suggested that the fire was set on purpose, according to officials.

Next of kin has been notified and Herrejon’s autopsy is now pending to determine the cause of death.

The New Braunfels Police Department and the New Braunfels Fire Department Fire Marshal’s Office are continuing to investigate this death and will be monitoring the residence.

No other injuries were reported.

This is a developing situation and KENS 5 will continue to update this article as we learn more.
