
Santiago Aburto Gonzalez was last seen around 7 p.m. Sunday when he walked out of his family’s home at the Ashton Park Apartment Homes, officials say.
GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas — The body of a missing 5-year-old boy has been found in a North Texas creek, police said Monday afternoon.
Santiago Aburto Gonzalez was last seen around 7 p.m. Sunday when he walked out of his family’s home at the Ashton Park Apartment Homes in the 2300 block of West Pioneer Parkway in Grand Prairie, police said.
By around 2 p.m. Monday, police said the boy’s body had been found in a creek just west of and adjacent to the apartment complex.
Police say the investigation is ongoing, but no foul play is suspected in Aburto’s death.
“The search for Santiago included police officers and civilians from the Grand Prairie Police Department, Grand Prairie Fire Department, Arlington Police Department, Garland Police Department, United States Marshals Service, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Dallas Police, Texas Department of Public Safety Air Support, Search One Rescue K9’s, and Drones from the Grand Prairie Police UAS Drone Unit,” Grand Prairie Police said in a post. “The Grand Prairie Police Department has met with the family of Santiago and offers our deepest condolences and will continue to support the family as needed. While this case remains under investigation, no foul play is suspected.”
More information about Aburto’s disappearance has not yet been released by authorities. Search crews could be seen in the area near the apartment searching for the boy all morning and into the afternoon.
Aburto had last been seen wearing an orange “Mickey” T-shirt, blue shorts and no shoes, according to a police news release issued earlier Monday.
