Bodycam video captures moments before officer fires fatal shots at suspect during chase in SA

SAPD said the officer fatally shot 43-year-old Miguel Morin after a foot chase and attempted arrest in March.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Police Department has released bodycam video showing a chase on the city’s north side last month that ended in a officer using deadly force.

The newly released video shows the officer attempting to make a traffic stop on W Loop 410 eastbound near Vance Jackson on the evening of March 16.

Police said the suspect, identified as 43-year-old Miguel Morin, did not pull over and instead drove into a gas station parking lot where he exited through the passenger side and took off on foot.

In the video, the officer can be heard shouting “You’re going to get tased!” as he chased after Morin.

Police said Morin ran across Vance Jackson where he climbed over a fence into the backyard of a home. The officer located him attempting to jump from a fence onto a roof.

Video shows the officer move trash bins to open a gate into a narrow concrete path in an attempt to apprehend Morin.

As he attempted to make the jump, Morin fell to the ground and the officer immediately tased him to no effect, according to SAPD.

Morin can be seen ignoring the officers commands to get on the ground. Police said the officer observed Morin had a knife on his hip and tased him a second time to no effect.

The officer dropped his taser that police said Morin then picked up as he began walking toward the officer.

Finally, the officer appears to fall to the ground before ultimately firing several rounds at Morin.

Police said EMS arrived and performed life-saving measures but the 43-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

The newly released SAPD video shows items police say were recovered in the suspect’s black bag, including 500 grams of narcotics and a gun. The knife that police said the suspect had on him was also recovered at the scene.

The involved SAPD officer has been identified as Officer Orlando Jimenez who has four years of service.

The investigation into the deadly chase remains ongoing.
