SAN ANTONIO — Four San Antonio-area high school basketball teams are getting the shot of a lifetime. They will be on the Final Four court before the semi-final games on Saturday.
The teams are Antonian Preparatory Boys Basketball, Brennan High School Boys Basketball, Judson High School Girls Basketball and Boerne High School Girls Basketball.
Boerne High School’s Head Girls Basketball Coach Amy Ruede said this opportunity all started with an email.
“Yes, we will be there!” Ruede said. “Where do I sign up and what time?”
Coach Ruede said when she broke the news to students like Oleyvia Ramos, they were all excited.
“Just being there is like a really great opportunity,” Ramos said.
The four local teams will be on the hardwood before Saturday’s games. Each team will hold a Final Four university’s flag during the opening ceremony.
Right after, they will even get to stay and watch some ball.
“How many high school kids are going to go play in college and are going to get to that level? Not very many,” Ruede said. “So for them to get to experience just a little piece of that.”
“We are just excited to see what the outcome is and what happens,” Ramos said.
Coach Ruede said 20 of the Boerne girls will be participating on Saturday. She said they will be doing a rehearsal on Friday at the Alamodome and so far, they don’t know which school flag they will be holding.
