Boil water notice issued for Kirby amid ongoing service outages

City officials started reporting the outage issues Thursday night.

SAN ANTONIO — Residents in Kirby, a Bexar County community of about 8,100 people, are being asked to boil any water they plan to consume or use for personal hygiene after city officials posted about widespread water outages Thursday night.

In a Friday update posted to social media, the City of Kirby said some residents may still be experiencing low water pressure as crews continue responding to the issue. Now the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is requiring residents to boil their water for at least two minutes before using it.

The recommendation applies to water Kirby residents plan to use for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth or washing hands. Boiling water ensures that potentially harmful germs and bacterial are killed.

“This notice will remain in effect until the City of Kirby receives water sample test results that confirm the water is safe to drink,” officials said.

Those impacted also have the option of picking up bottled water at the local fire department (5560 Duffek Drive). They’ll need to bring either a photo ID or water bill for verification.
