The BCSO bomb squad will be detonating the explosives with the help of San Antonio Police.

SAN ANTONIO — Family members cleaning out a home of a relative who died found something unusual and contacted the the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.

Bexar County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a home near Loop 1604 and New Sulphur Spring Road on the far southeast side of town for reports of explosives found.

According to Sheriff Javier Salazar, explosive materials were found and experts were called in to help detonate them safely. San Antonio Police Bomb Squad is on the scene and the explosives will be detonated in place.  The projected time of detonation is within the next couple of hours.

The sheriff said he didn’t know the exact amount, but it might be close to around 20 pounds. Officials barricaded off about 1000 feet surrounding the home as a containment zone as a precaution.
