GUADALUPE COUNTY, Texas — Students and staff at Steele High School in Guadalupe County were safely evacuated on Tuesday after a bomb threat was left on the school’s voicemail, prompting class cancellations for the day.
Out of an abundance of caution, authorities cleared the campus and dismissed classes as officers conducted a sweep of the building.
Police said the threat was discovered on the school’s recorded phone line. Officers responded, reviewed the message and immediately began evacuating and clearing the campus.
The Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD said students who were already on buses were redirected to Samuel Clemens High School for pickup. No injuries were reported. District officials said all other campuses remained open and operated on a normal schedule.
Investigators later determined the same threat was also left at Boerne High School.
Police said the incident appears to be a coordinated effort similar to a swatting call. At this time, authorities said there is no intelligence indicating the threats are credible.
As a precaution, law enforcement agencies have increased their presence at schools and are coordinating with local, state and federal partners through a fusion center.
Authorities are asking the public not to spread rumors or unverified information online and to report any suspicious activity by calling 911. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
