Border Patrol agents seize $1M in cocaine found hidden inside Chevy Captiva

Over 82 pounds of the drug were discovered by K-9s and using non-intrusive imaging.

PHARR, Texas — Border Patrol agents found more than $1 million dollars worth of cocaine hidden inside an SUV entering the United States from Mexico on Friday.

35 packages with 82 pounds of the drug were discovered by K-9s and using non-intrusive imaging after the 2014 Chevy Captiva was referred for a secondary inspection at the Pharr International Bridge.

“Our frontline CBP officers continue to exhibit excellence honed by their inspection skills and use of technology which yielded this significant load of cocaine,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry.

The narcotics and vehicle were both seized by Customs and Border agents. Homeland Security Investigations special agents arrested the driver, a 34-year-old male Mexican citizen, and initiated a criminal investigation into the seizure.
