Border Patrol seizes more than $1.6M in cocaine found hidden in shipment of limes

50 packages of alleged cocaine weighing more than 125 pounds were found hidden in the trailer.

PHARR, Texas — Border Patrol agents seized more than $1.6M in cocaine found hidden inside a shipment of limes at the border.

Officers at the Pharr International Bridge came across the shipment on Monday while taking a closer look at a tractor trailer hauling produce in from Mexico.

CBP agents used x-ray technology and a K9 team to inspect the shipment.

50 packages of alleged cocaine weighing more than 125 pounds were found hidden in the trailer. 

“As this interception illustrates, our frontline CBP officers continue to shut down significant hard narcotics smuggling attempts utilizing an effective combination of inspection skill, experience and high-tech tools,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Hidalgo Port of Entry.

The cocaine has a total estimated street value of $1,677,852.

The drugs and vehicle were seized by agents. The criminal investigation will be handled by Homeland Security Investigations special agents.
