The puppies were taken in by the Animal Defense League and will be available for adoption.
SAN ANTONIO — A box loaded with five puppies that was abandoned on the side of a road was saved by a team from City of San Antonio Animal Care Services Friday.
A concerned citizen called 3-1-1 to report the puppies that had been left by someone in some bushes.

“When Animal Care Officer Tutak arrived on scene, she spotted a cardboard box hidden in overgrown bushes along the side of the road,” said City of SA ACS. “Inside were five young puppies—alone, scared, and vulnerable.”

The crew that responded got to them before the heat of the day, saving them while preventing a tragic outcome.
The boxful of puppies was brought to the ACS facility to be checked out, then transferred into the care of the Animal Defense League.

ACS says this is a common occurrence due to people in the Alamo City allowing unsterilized pets to roam, which perpetuates a cycle of unwanted litters and overcrowded animal shelters.
You can help stop the cycle by making sure your pets are spayed and neutered. Find out about free and low cost spay/neuter services which are available by visiting saacs.info/spayneuter.
“While we work toward a future where every pet is planned, wanted, and cared for, we’re not there yet,” says City of SA ACS. “ACS takes in over 30,000 pets each year, and we can’t do this work alone.”
