Boy’s body found in search for missing 13-year-old twins at Galveston

Update at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 7:

A child’s body has been found in the area where the ongoing search for 13-year-old twin boys was taking place at Pleasure Pier in Galveston, authorities confirmed to ABC13 on Tuesday, March 7. Officials said the child’s body meets the description of one of the twin swimmers. 

The body was found at about 2 a.m. by someone walking the beach, ABC13 reports. The twins were reported missing around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 5. The family said they were last seen swimming on the west side of the pier. 

Officials said search crews plan to return to the area on Tuesday to continue their search.

Original story on Monday, March 6:

The search continues for the 13-year-old twin brothers who were reported missing at Pleasure Pier in Galveston on Sunday, March 5, according to the the Galveston Island Beach Patrol. Officials told KHOU 11 that the family of the teens spent about an hour searching for them before calling the police.

The family told officials that the twins went missing around 4:30 p.m. after last being seen swimming on the west side of the pier. Police said the family called 911 to report the boys once they saw them in the water about waist to chest deep. Officials said the family never saw the twins go under the water.

Beach patrol, as well as the local police and first responders, searched the area but have not found the teens as of Monday, March 6. Officials said they have also found no sign of the teens in the area they were last seen. Beach patrol said that it’s running mobile patrol vehicles and providing 24/7 on-call service.

Officials at the beach warned how currents at the pier in Galveston can be strong during this time of year. They advised families to watch their children closely and look out for jetties and piers in the water.

The Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier is one of many island attractions. Galveston is about 245 miles east of downtown San Antonio and 50 miles from downtown Houston.
