CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Bryce Young had 448 yards passing and three touchdowns as the Carolina Panthers beat the Atlanta Falcons in overtime.
Ryan Fitzgerald nailed a 28-yard kick to give the Panthers (6-5) the win. The winning drive was set up by a 54-yard pass to tight end Tommy Tremble. Carolina won 30-27
Young hit rookie receiver Tetairoa McMillan for a 12-yard pass with under two minutes remaining to give the Carolina Panthers the lead. Atlanta tied the game on the next drive to send the game into overtime.
Atlanta (3-6) led 21-10 at halftime, but the Panthers stayed in the contest, allowing Young to lead his fourth game-winning drive of the season.
Young had a breakout day, finishing 31 of 45 for 448 yards and three touchdowns. He set a franchise record for passing yards, breaking Cam Newton’s September 2011 record of 432 yards passing.
Rookie receiver Tetairoa McMillan greatly helped Young’s efforts with eight receptions for 130 yards receiving and two touchdowns.
Young’s standout day was necessary on a day the Panthers’ running game was shut down. Rico Dowdle led the Panthers with 45 yards rushing on 19 carries.
Atlanta quarterback Michael Penix Jr. had an efficient day, finishing 13 of 16 for 175 yards. He was knocked out with an injury in the second half. Kirk Cousins filled in but proved ineffective. Bijan Robinson led Atlanta on the ground with 104 yards rushing.
