The Boerne Buc-ee’s has been roughly eight years in the making, and there’s little progress to show for it so far.
Zachary-Taylor WrightThe Texas Hill Country is already home to the biggest Beaver-branded gas station in Texas, but the masses have been longing for the first pit stop west of I-10 for close to a decade. Now, with several Buc-ee’s projects also in the works, residents in Boerne might have reason to be hopeful this year.
For the $38 million Boerne location, Buc-ee’s General Counsel Jeff Nadalo told MySA that, “we are hopeful to begin construction this summer in Boerne.” This is the latest step in a Buc-ee’s development that, ever since its announcement in 2016, has dealt with delay after delays.
The Buc-ee’s was first held up due to TxDOT needing to complete street work. The start date for the groundbreaking was originally slated for October 2023, according to a TDLR filing. However, Buc-ee’s’ lands tax deal with Kendall County held up the start date again, according to a MySA report from colleague Zachary-Taylor Wright.

Zachary-Taylor WrightWhile we wait to see what happens in Boerne, Buc-ee’s has a couple of highly anticipated stores that will soon be opening their doors. Hillsboro’s new location is aiming for an April grand opening. Meanwhile, the newly expanded Luling location is expected to open in the next three to six months, Nadalo said to MySA in an email.
Luling has been building next door to the current location that opened in 2001. The massive expansion will be the biggest in the Lone Star State at 75,000-square-foot, according to a MySA report, featuring 120 gas pumps at the pit stop. A new video from Jaime Garcia/StormChaserHouston showed the progress of the Luling construction.
