
A Buffalo mother who lost five children in a fatal New Year’s Eve house fire in 2022 has filed a lawsuit against the owners of the home.
BUFFALO, N.Y. — The mother of five children, killed in a New Year’s Eve house fire two years ago, has filed a lawsuit against the owners of the property.
Kenise Robinson’s children were in the care of grandparents Clarence and Lisa Liggans when a fire started in a Dartmouth Avenue home on Dec. 31, 2022.
Five of Robinson’s children, Aniyah Green, 10, Joelle Liggans, 8, Jalissa Liggans, 7, Denise Keith, 4, and Nehemiah Robinson, 2 died of their injuries. A sixth child, Aiya suffered minor smoke inhalation and was treated in the hospital.
The children’s grandmother, Lisa Liggans, 64, died a few months later in March 2023, after spending three months at the Erie County Medical Center with burns covering more than 80 percent of her body.
The lawsuit alleges fire was “the result of the fault, negligence and carelessness of the Defendants,” Fazlul Chowdhury of Niagara Falls and Razia Chowdhury of Jamaica, NY are named the defendants. The suit also names John Doe 1-John Doe 5 an any future parties that may not be known at the time of the filing, but may become known through their discovery.
The suit states Robinson’s children, “were caused to endure severe arid life ending injuries, physical pain, suffering and mental anguish, fear of impending death, and loss of enjoyment of life from the time of the ignition of the house fire until the time of their deaths.”
Robinson is seeking an amount that “exceeds the jurisdictional limits of all lower courts.“, according to the suit.
