Buzz kill: Swarm of bees forces South Texas high school football game to be relocated. Here’s where.

Dilley ISD announced the game between Dilley and Comfort on Friday night has been relocated due to a “swarm of bees” on or near the field.

DILLEY, Texas — For the second time in a year, a district in South Texas has encountered an unexpected wildlife problem at its football stadium. Now it’s forcing officials to move a high school game.

Dilley ISD shared on Facebook that Friday night’s matchup against Comfort has been moved to a different venue due to concerns revolving around a “swarm of bees at or near the field.” Last year, on Sept. 3, the district warned about a “significant number of rattlesnakes” at the venue.

Friday’s game was originally scheduled to be played at Gosch Field before the district said the buzzy problem was changing those places. Now kickoff between Comfort and Dilley will be at Pearsall Stadium.

“For the safety of our student-athletes, coaches, officials and spectators, the decision was made out of an abundance of caution,” the district said in a statement released to families. “Emergency procedures are being followed, and professional pest control has been contacted to safely remove the bees from the premises.”

New game details

  • Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m. at Mack Laxson Field in Pearsall
  • Parents night will be moved to another week and details from coach and staff will be sent at a later time
  • Food and drinks are allowed inside as there will be no concession stand
