Bye Bye, Brahmas | San Antonio’s UFL team leaving the city because venue does ‘not align’ with league’s vision

The San Antonio Brahmas are leaving the city as part of the UFL’s market exit plan.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio UFL team, the Brahmas, is leaving the city, the league announced Friday.

In a post to social media, the league said it was departting the San Antonio, Michigan, and Memphis Markets because “the available venues in these areas do not align with [the league’s] new vision.” The statement went on to thank fans and communities in those areas for supporting the teams.

The Brahmas began playing in the Alamo City in 2023 and competed in the United Football League (UFL) as a member of the XFL Conference. Hines Ward was the head coach the first year the team played at the Alamodome. He was replaced by Wade Phillips, who suffered health issues, eventually resulting him leaving the team. He was replaced by special teams coach Payton Pardee.

After a thorough analysis of all markets and venues, the United Football League has made the difficult decision to depart from the Memphis, Michigan, and San Antonio markets. Unfortunately, due to stadium constraints, the available venues in these areas do not align with our new vision of focusing on smaller, more intimate settings that elevate the fan experience.

We are deeply grateful for the incredible support of our devoted fans in these communities. Your passion and commitment have been invaluable to the league.

As we look ahead to potential expansion in 2028, we remain hopeful that the right venues will become available in these markets so we can return and once again bring UFL football to you.

Further details about the league’s next steps will be shared in our announcement next week.
