Ruben Rennspies called KENS about the low-hanging line near his property. AT&T fixed it immediately after being notified.
BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — Ruben Rennspies didn’t know what to do about the low hanging line that was nearly blocking his neighbor’s driveway and almost touching the ground down the road.
He said he had called CPS Energy, Spectrum and then AT&T over two months but he still couldn’t get it resolved. At the same time, he worried it was becoming a hazard.
“I don’t know if it’s a charged wire or not but when it’s windy it really swings,” Rennspies said.
The homeowner says he saw previously CPS Energy installing brand new power polls on FM 1346 and the power lines were moved over to the new polls immediately.
Other lines, which did not belong to CPS Energy, remained on the old polls. It was one of those lines which was causing the issue.
Rennspies said he didn’t know what else to do about it, but then a neighbor suggested calling KENS 5.
“My neighbor says ‘Call I witness wants to know!’” he said.
KENS 5 came out to the property to find out what was going on. We found lines still attached to the old pole and a plastic box on the poll that simply said “Telephone Co Property.”
KENS 5 then contacted CPS Energy, Spectrum, and later AT&T to try and find out what was going on.
The Spectrum team quickly looked into the issue on Friday morning, determined it was AT&T’s line, and notified AT&T about the issue. AT&T had already sent out contractors when KENS 5 contacted AT&T on Monday.
Rennspies said contractors came out several times and the line was completely moved over to the new polls by Tuesday morning.
“I was really surprised! I immediately called you. Hey the job is done!” Rennspies said. “It feels good that somebody cares. It was well taken care of.”
An AT&T spokesperson sent KENS 5 a statement saying, “As soon as we were made aware of the condition of our cable, our team worked quickly to transfer the line and ensure it was installed at the proper height. Residents can report damaged or low-hanging cables at 800-288-2020.”
Rennspies said he’s relieved the companies took care of it. He’s also glad he called KENS 5.
“I feel great about it,’ Rennspies said. “Thanks to KENS 5. You listened and made contacts and got the job done.”
