Camp Mystic camper comes to Odessa to honor flood victims

At Memorial Gardens Park in Odessa, the whole community was invited to honor the victims of the devastating flood in Central Texas.

ODESSA, Texas — The City of Odessa invited the whole community to Memorial Gardens Park on Friday to honor the flood victims, and one Camp Mystic camper joined to pay tribute.

As part of the tribute, people helped decorate trees by tying green and pink ribbons to them along 42nd Street. The pink and green ribbons paid homage to the Camp Mystic victims.

This symbolic gesture served as a heartfelt way to remember those lives lost and to support the community’s healing process.

NewsWest 9 has reported that Odessans Bobby Martin and Amanda Martin, along with Odessa Police Department Officer Bailey Martin, died in the floods. NewsWest 9 learned on Friday that Bailey Martin’s girlfriend, Jayda Floyd, an Ector County juvenile detention center officer, lost her life in the devastating floods.

One camper from Camp Mystic came to West Texas to offer her support during a devastating time.

“I wanted to be here because I like to be here, because I support Camp Mystic, and because I’m a camper there,” said Annabelle Coultress, a camper at Camp Mystic. “I felt really upset, and I was scared, and I didn’t know what to do.”

Twenty-seven campers and counselors have died in the flooding at Camp Mystic, and as of Friday night, six are still missing.
