Car plunges into north-side sinkhole after water main break

The main break was caused by a fiber contractor hitting an 8-inch water main.

SAN ANTONIO — A car inadvertently plunged into a trench after a water main break on the north side of San Antonio Monday afternoon.

According to SAWS, a main break was caused by a fiber contractor hitting an 8-inch water main near Rittiman Road and Andover Place around 2 p.m.

Crews reportedly went to the location and set up traffic cones but a driver in a maroon SUV went around the cones “and fell into the trench.”

A KENS 5 news crew saw multiple SAWS workers trying to fix the main break.

The car was removed from the sinkhole as of 3:15 p.m. Monday.

No other information was provided.
