SEGUIN – Seguin police are searching for a caregiver who they say left three people inside a vehicle that wasn’t running as temperatures neared 100 degrees.
Police said Corey Evans Gill, 41, is facing three counts of deadly conduct.
On the evening on July 9, Gill left three men, ages 32, 53 and 76, with mental disabilities inside a vehicle that was turned off, police said.
A passerby noticed the men sitting in the vehicle, which was parked in the 700 block of Stratton Street, and they were asking for water.
After police arrived, they made contact with Gill, who was their caretaker and legal guardian.
He told police that he left them in the car for 20 minutes and turned it off so they wouldn’t drive away.
“The three individuals within the vehicle were found to be developmentally delayed to the extent that they would not be able to properly take care of themselves if placed in immediate danger,” police said in a news release.
Paramedics arrived and treated them for possible heat-related injuries. Records show the temperature in Seguin at 6:55 p.m. on July 9 was 97 degrees, with a heat index value in the low triple digits.
Police said a warrant for his arrest was issued on July 21.
On Thursday, Seguin police asked for the public’s help in locating Gill.
