It was unclear how long the notice may be in place as crews tend to the break Wednesday.
SAN ANTONIO — Officials with the City of Castroville, about 35 miles west of downtown San Antonio, are advising residents to boil their water before consumption as crews respond to a water main break.
The city issued the boil water notice around 2 p.m. on Facebook on behalf of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. Residents are advised to boil any water they plan to use to wash their hands or face, brush their teeth, drink, or for cooking.
Water should be at a rolling boil for two minutes in order for any bacteria to be eliminated.
The warning comes after the city shared information about a “significant” leak that caused water service to be shut down for residents living west of the local Walmart, which sits on the eastern edge of town.
“The only areas not affected are Alsatian Oaks and the east side of the city,” officials shared online. “Crews are actively working to locate and repair the issue as quickly and safely as possible.”
The city didn’t provide a timeline for when service may be restored and the boil water notice lifted.
This is a developing story.
