Nissan Leaf SL Plus can go 212 miles on a single charge, starts at $36,040

Nissan has trimmed the lineup of its all-electric hatchback Leaf for 2023, and lowered the starting price.
The compact, five-passenger Leaf for the 2023 model year is available in two versions, the Leaf S, starting at $28,040 (plus $1,095 freight), and the Leaf SV Plus, which begins at $36,040. Qualified purchasers may also be eligible for a federal tax credit of up to $7,500.
Last year’s lineup included five models. The automaker says the trimmed-down selection “reflects the most customer-requested features and technologies.”
For 2023, the SL Plus model, which we tested for this report, comes with an EPA estimated maximum range of 212 miles on a full battery charge. That’s actually down from the 2022 model’s estimated 215-mile range.
Updates to the 2023 Leaf include an enhanced front end appearance, with a refreshed front grille, bumper molding and headlights that feature a new black inner trim.

The Nissan badge is now illuminated and has been updated to the brand’s new design identity. Also, the tire deflectors at all four corners, rear under-diffuser, and rear spoiler have all been redesigned for better aerodynamics.
SV Plus also comes with new five-spoke, 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels.
Inside, changes include the new Nissan badge on the steering wheel and a new start-up video on the instrument panel screen.
Black cloth is standard on both models, with gray trim for the Leaf S and gloss-black trim for the SV Plus.
The base 2023 Leaf S is equipped with a 40-kWh lithium-ion battery and 110-kW electric motor that delivers 147 horsepower and 236 foot-pounds of torque. It has an estimated range of 149 miles between charges.
With the SV Plus, there is a 60-kWh lithium-ion battery and a 160-kW electric motor that produces 214 horsepower and 250 foot-pounds of torque.
