Catholic Charities offering free tax preparation help in San Antonio

Catholic Charities is offering free tax preparation services for qualifying San Antonio residents through April 15 at the Guadalupe Community Center.

SAN ANTONIO — Tax season is here, and filing can be stressful and expensive for many families. Catholic Charities of San Antonio is once again offering free tax preparation services to help residents file accurately and on time.

The nonprofit’s IRS-certified volunteers began assisting taxpayers this week through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. The service is available to individuals and families earning up to $65,000 per year. Walk-ins are welcome, and most returns can be completed in about an hour, with volunteers providing an estimate of tax refunds during the appointment.

The free service is being offered at the Guadalupe Community Center in San Antonio from noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.

Taxpayers are asked to bring a valid original photo ID, their original Social Security card, completed intake forms, and all tax documents such as W-2s or 1099s.

The service will continue through the federal tax deadline on April 15. Anyone with questions can contact Catholic Charities at (210) 222-2975.

San Antonio residents can also take advantage of a free, year-round tax assistance clinic offered by the city.
