Catholics and Jews come together for a holiday spark at San Fernando Cathedral

Attendees will see a menorah lighting, hear from local faith leaders, and listen to a keynote by Rabbi Norman Cohen of Minnesota’s Bet Shalom Congregation.

SAN ANTONIO — Catholics and Jews are coming together under one roof to celebrate Hanukkah at the iconic San Fernando Cathedral.

The noon gathering on Thursday, Dec. 18, will highlight unity and shared traditions. Attendees will see a menorah lighting, hear from local faith leaders, and listen to a keynote by Rabbi Norman Cohen of Minnesota’s Bet Shalom Congregation.

The celebration also honors the 60th anniversary of Nostra Aetate, a landmark Catholic declaration that reshaped the church’s relationship with non-Christian religions and opened doors for interfaith understanding.

Organizers say this is more than a holiday gathering, it’s a reminder that communities can come together, celebrate what they have in common, and build bridges in a world that often feels divided.
