A $2,500 reward is being offered by the owner for a clue that leads to an arrest.
SAN ANTONIO — It was a quick hit.
The owner of the Lost Bar and Grill on NW Military Highway said a burglar was able to break the bolts securing his safe to the concrete floor and drag the heavy weight out of the business in about eight minutes.
The crime was caught on numerous surveillance cameras around the bar, from the moment the burglar shattered a pane of glass to gain entry just after 3 a.m. Monday.
Of the suspect, bar owner Buddy Fisher said, “Somebody knows. Somebody’s going to recognize this person.”
To find the person, Fisher is offering a reward of $2,500.
Watching the man from several angles, Fisher said, “You can see that the person is probably about 5’10” maybe as tall as 6 feet. You can see his body build, so there’s a lot of identifying factors in there and that’s why I posted on social media.”
Fisher and his friends have shared several clips of the break-in to help with the hunt.
“When he’s starting to move the safe out the back, and this is a heavy safe, you can see that he’s got a pretty husky frame on him to move a 250 plus pound safe and slide it on its back,” Fisher said.
There are clues. Police said the burglar left one of his tools behind and there is video of the suspect vehicle.
Fisher said he is working on enhancing the video to see if he can recover more information on the small, dark sedan.
As a long-time small business owner, Fisher said one reason he offered a reward is that he doesn’t want anyone else to endure the headaches he now has.
Fisher said the damage to his building was far more expensive than the small amount of cash that was in the safe.
“Most people just carry credit cards on them anymore and our transactions are 98 or 99% credit cards so it’s ridiculous to take the risk in my mind to go after a safe that’s not going to have very much money,” Fisher said, adding “It’s a great opportunity for us to share information and potentially capture this person or catch these people before they do this to somebody else again.”
Anyone with clues about the identity of the burglars can call the police non-emergency number at 210-207-SAPD or the number to the Lost Bar and Grill is 210-437-4873.
