The victim will spend Christmas and several weeks at a rehabilitation facility, her husband told WFAA.
DALLAS — A driver was caught on camera driving into a woman and her dog, then fleeing the scene on Dec 18.
Dallas Police are investigating the incident, which happened around 4 p.m. that day, at the intersection of Hillcrest and Churchill roads, according to the department.
Security footage shows Kim Thomas walking her 7-year-old dog Seve when a white pickup truck hit her and Seve, before fleeing the scene. The driver has not been identified or come forward, according to Dallas police.
Kim suffered multiple injuries, including a broken collarbone, four broken ribs, a broken hip and ankle, and a cracked vertebra. Her dog, named Seve, underwent a six-hour emergency surgery on both hips and remains mostly immobile, Kim’s husband Jeffrey Thomas told WFAA.
“I was shocked, devastated. It was hard to process,” Jeffrey said. “It’s hard to understand how someone could do that.”
Jeffrey said he hopes the driver will take responsibility for their actions and turn themselves in.
“This could have been fatal,” he said. “This person needs to be identified and be held accountable for what they did.”
On Christmas Eve, Thomas asked for prayers for his wife and dog’s recovery. He emphasized his plea for the driver to come forward isn’t about revenge.
“I hope they’ll bring some peace to those that they’ve impacted,” he said.
Kim Thomas will spend Christmas, and the next several weeks, Jeffery said, at a rehabilitation facility.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Dallas Police Department.
