Here’s what Mitch Johnson, Stephon Castle and Keldon Johnson had to say following the Spurs’ loss to the Cavs.
SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers 124-116 on the road and were led by Devin Vassell’s 22 points.
Keldon Johnson scored 17 points, and Chris Paul had five points and five assists. Julian Champagnie added 16 points and seven rebounds. Stephon Castle finished with 22 and eight assists, and Harrison Barnes recorded 10. Jeremy Sochan added 13 and five rebounds.
The Spurs are 31-41 this season and will host the Celtics on Saturday night at home.
Here’s a sample of what the Spurs and Cavs said after the game.
Mitch Johnson:
“Extremely proud. Thought there was carryover from the shootaround, thought there was some really, really good moments of game plan execution. They (Cavs) made some shots. Obviously, they’re going to do that. They’re a really good team. Jarrett Allen, obviously, got going a little bit and hurt us. There’s a reason their record is what it is, but I thought we did a really good job tonight showing some fight and some resilience.”
“At the end of the day, I still want to win, though. We really don’t do moral victories. It’s a tough loss. It’s a good team. I thought we gave ourselves a chance to win. We could have won.”
Keldon Johnson:
“I feel like I haven’t really been shooting the ball as well as I would like, but just continue to play hard and be there for my teammates and be myself regardless if the ball’s going or not. And my energy carried me through the night. I just try to stay even keel, try to cheer my teammates.”
