CCISD sends elementary students consent form regarding instruction on human trafficking

The letters were a request for parents’ consent regarding instruction on topics like human sexuality, child abuse, family violence, dating violence and human trafficking.

Students that are being offered the instruction range from first grade to high school seniors.

3NEWS spoke with P.E. and Health Specialist with the district, Amy Bull, who tell us parents have the option to opt out of the instruction.

“A couple of years ago laws were passed that stated when this instruction comes up in the classrooms parents should be notified ahead of time and be able to opt their students into those lessons or out if they needed to,” Bull said.

The letter contains a link parents can use to see what their child will learn if they decide to allow them to do so.

Parents are also told they can contact their student’s health teacher or the district with any questions.
