Celebrate SA: Ring in the New Year in downtown San Antonio

The San Antonio Parks Foundation will be hosting “Celebrate SA New Year’s Eve Party and Countdown in Downtown San Antonio.”

SAN ANTONIO — Get ready to ring in the New Year in downtown San Antonio, with fireworks, live music, food, games and more! And the best part about it is that it’s FREE!

The San Antonio Parks Foundation will be hosting Celebrate SA New Year’s Eve Party and Countdown in Downtown San Antonio, which is sponsored by Ready to Work.

The party gets underway at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31 and will go until after midnight.

The celebration will also include a tribute to Mayor Ron Nirenberg, as he finishes his fourth and final term in May of 2025.  “Nirenberg is one of the longest serving mayors of San Antonio and the longest since Mayor Henry Cisneros, who left office in 1989 and ultimately served as US Secretary of Housing and Urban Development from 1993-1997,” the city said in a press release.  “Mayor Nirenberg will have an opportunity to lead the countdown and share a few words with the community he has passionately served.”

The music begins in Market Square with DJ Celebr8 performing on the main stage from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., spinning the latest hits. Then the live music and dancing starts at 9 p.m. with Melange by Intensity Entertainment. “Melange showcases great cover vocals and music, dancing and exciting costume changes throughout their performance, adding a vibrant visual element that will keep the crowd engaged,” said City Parks and Recreation.

The party continues from Civic Park at Hemisfair and La Villita down to the San Antonio River Walk, where folks can enjoy a variety of activities and performances across these venues.

“We are thrilled to host this event as part of our mission to enhance and preserve San Antonio’s parks while fostering community connections,” said Mary Jane Verette, President & CEO of the San Antonio Parks Foundation. “The Celebrate SA New Year’s Eve Party in Downtown San Antonio, along with activities at Civic Park and La Villita, are wonderful opportunities for the community to come together, have fun, and enjoy our unique culture.”

There is also a life-sized Winter Wonderland Village built by St. Philips College Allied Construction Trades/Construction Technology at La Villita, complete with displays of gingerbread creations from the students in St. Philip’s Culinary Arts/Baking & Pastry Arts program.

In addition, Celebrate New Year’s Eve at Yanaguana Garden at Hemisfair will have a family-friendly carnival with games crafts, music, games, and exciting activities for kids of all ages. That will take place from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., with a special kids countdown at 8 p.m.

And finally, Hemisfair and Sound Cream Airstream will come together to ring in the New Year with Celebrate in Civic, a dance party in Civic Park at Hemisfair from 6 p.m. until midnight.

Get a front-row seat on the lawn for a New Year’s Eve performance by Cumbiatron, with a photo-booth-to capture your last memories of 2024.

And ending it all, a 14 minute display of fireworks at midnight!

“This community-focused event encourages a suggested donation of $25 per person, offering a chance to support Hemisfair while enjoying a night of music, entertainment, and connection,” said City Parks and Recreation. “Donations of $150 or more will include a Hemisfair picnic blanket and four drink tickets while supplies last.”

Reservations for Celebrate in Civic are limited and based on a first-come, first-served basis. Visit the Hemisfair website for additional event details and reservations.
