Texas officials assessing flood damage are urging residents to use iSTAT survey for help tracking damage to property caused by flooding.
AUSTIN, Texas —
Emergency management officials throughout Central Texas are still assessing the damages of the deadly flooding across the region over the Independence Day Weekend.
Much of the damage is to homes, businesses other public and private property in remote areas, many of which that are still difficult to access due to destroyed bridges and roads.
The Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) is asking the public for help assessing that damage using the Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT), a survey that people can fill out to help TDEM record and track each instance of flood damage.
If private property has been damaged by flooding, those property owners will still have to report that damage to their insurance companies, but filling out this survey can help TDEM connect those affected with resources and services, including federal disaster assistance.
Those in areas without an internet connection or cellular data service can call to report damage over the phone at 1-800-621-3362
The iSTAT survey will ask property owners questions about the nature of the damage and the current needs of those property owners. It also asks people to “Take multiple photos from different angles including close-up photos of specific points of damage and photos of the entire structure.”
Anyone interested in volunteering to help people affected by the floods in Travis County are asked to report to the Travis County Volunteer Reception Center (VRC) during its hours of operation. Prior registration is not required to volunteer, but those interested are encouraged to visit the Austin Disaster Relief Network (ADRN) website to view available volunteer opportunities and register online.
Those who wish to donate funds can donate to the TEGNA Texas Flood Relief Fund.
