Central Texas woman dies after being hit by train

Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad alerted law enforcement after the tragedy happened west of Killeen in Fort Cavazos.

FORT CAVAZOS, Texas — A Central Texas woman died after being hit by a train near Business Highway 190 and Vendable Drive in Fort Cavazos, the Bell County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) said. 

At approximately 8:34 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25, the Burlington Nothern Santa Fe Railroad (BNFS) notified police that a woman, who was described to be near the tracks, was struck by an eastbound train. 

Along with BCSO, the Fort Cavazos Military Police, Killeen Police Department and the Killeen Fire/Emergency Medical Services were called to the scene.

Law enforcement quickly found the woman. 

According to BCSO, Killeen EMS took the woman to Carl R. Darnell Medical Center Emergency Department. However, the woman died while medical personnel attempted to save her. 

Justice of the Peace Nicola James ordered an atuopsy to be performed at Hill Country Forensics. 

The Bell County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division is investigating the incident. 

Police stated that investigators currently believe this is a tragic accident and nobody else was involved. The woman’s family is being informed of the incident by law enforcement. For this reason, the woman’s identity has not been made public.
