SAN ANTONIO — An annual San Antonio march that champions community action against injustice and draws crowds numbering in the thousands to the west side has been cancelled for 2026, just weeks before it was scheduled to unfold.
At this point, however, it remains unclear exactly why the Cesar E. Chavez March for Justice isn’t happening this year.
The home page of the foundation that organizes the march announced the cancellation Friday, and San Antonio officials confirmed the event wasn’t happening.
“We are grateful to all the community members, sponsors and leaders from throughout San Antonio who helped support this year’s efforts,” read a message on the home page of the Cesar E. Chavez Legacy & Educational Foundation, posted by the group’s chairman. “We encourage community members to engage in their planned civic endeavors and to continue committing themselves to being of service to others.”
The 29th edition of the march, co-sponsored by the City of San Antonio, was set for Saturday, March 28. Having started in 1997, it’s held in honor of the labor activist and community leader who cofounded the National Farm Workers Association.
