BOERNE, Texas — A child has died after suffering a medical episode Friday morning at Excelled Montessori School in Scenic Oaks near Boerne, BCSO says.
Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said in a press conference that at about 10 a.m. a 6-year-old girl was found unresponsive in the bathroom by a staff member, who attempted life saving measures and called 911.
She was transported by EMS to the hospital where she was pronounced dead at about 11:25 a.m.
Salazar says that there isn’t any indication that there was any wrongdoing on the part of the school.
The girl had possibly chronic underlying health conditions that may have contributed to the episode, according to Salazar.
BCSO will be at the school for several hours processing the scene.
All the other kids are safe and accounted for. If you’re a parent of someone at the school and you haven’t received a message, your child is okay.
The parents of the child have been notified of her death.
Excelled Montessori has sent KENS 5 the statement, which reads:
“We are heartbroken by the passing of a child who was attending our summer program this week. The child experienced a medical emergency in the classroom, and our trained staff responded immediately, administering CPR and emergency care until first responders arrived.
Despite all efforts, the child sadly did not survive.
Out of respect for the family’s privacy, we will not be sharing additional details. We are aware that the child had a pre-existing medical condition, and we are cooperating fully with the appropriate authorities.
Our entire ExcellED Montessori Plus community is grieving this loss. We extend our deepest condolences to the family during this incredibly difficult time. We have made grief counseling available for our staff and students, and we are keeping the family in our thoughts and prayers.”
This is a developing situation.
