Child found drowned in Trinity River after car went into the water, officials say

The driver, a woman, was rescued by first responders Saturday night and taken to a nearby hospital, police said.

FORT WORTH, Texas — A deceased two-year-old was recovered from the Trinity River Sunday after a car went into the water Saturday evening, police said.

According to the Fort Worth Police Department, officers responded to the area of Beach and East Freeway around 5:47 p.m. to the report of a car that had gone into the river.

Upon arrival, police said officers found the car in the water and jumped in. An adult woman was pulled from the water and officers performed live-saving measures on her — later sending her to the nearest hospital, police said. The woman’s condition was not immediately clear.

According to Fort Worth PD, the call that dispatch received said that there was also an infant in the car. Officials continued searching for victims around 10 a.m. with boats equipped with SONAR, the Fort Worth Fire Department said in a press release.

The remains of the child were later found in the river, police confirmed. Police did not immediately identify the woman or the child.
