Police say the child had walked out of the nearby daycare unattended.

SAN ANTONIO — A child was found walking near a roadway after leaving a nearby daycare unattended, SAPD says.

Officers were dispatched to the 4400 block of Thousand Oaks Drive for a welfare check of a child who they say was walking near a roadway Thursday around 2:37 p.m. Police say the child had walked out of the nearby daycare unattended.

Police say a bystander saw the child, took them off the road and contacted CPS. The staff of the daycare quickly realized the child was gone and went outside to look for him, according to police. They saw him with the bystander and tried to get him back to which the bystander said they were not going to until police got there.

Officers arrived and the child was released back to their parent once they arrived.

Police did not say how old the child is.

KENS 5 has reached out to the daycare for any comment, but they have not gotten back to us yet.
