Child hit by stray bullet after her father fired shots at an unruly neighbor, police say

The neighbor was grazed in the shoulder by the bullet that ended up critically injuring his daughter.

SAN ANTONIO — A child is in critical condition after police say her father fired off shots at a neighbor who refused to leave their home, grazing him and ending up critically injuring his daughter.

It happened around 12:53 a.m. in the 9700 block of Bratton Drive near Marbach Road on the west side of town.

Police say the family was hosting a watch party for a boxing match when a disagreement broke out between the man and his neighbor.

The neighbor became aggressive and the host asked him to leave, according to police. He refused to leave and continued arguing with the host.

Police say that’s when the man grabbed a weapon and shot at the neighbor, grazing his shoulder.

The bullet also ended up hitting the daughter of the party’s host who was in the front yard. She was rushed to University Hospital in critical condition and the neighbor was taken in stable condition.

The man told officers he didn’t realize his daughter was out front when he fired his weapon.

It’s unclear if that man will face any charges.

Police did not say how old the man’s daughter is, just that she is a child. No other injuries were reported.

This is a developing story.
