Child hit by stray bullet; suspect arrested, SAPD says

It began with the child’s father hosting a party that authorities say ended in gunfire.

SAN ANTONIO — A child is in critical condition after an argument her father and an unruly neighbor resulted in gunfire, police said. She was hospitalized in critical condition.

Police said the neighbor refused to leave their home. Investigators on scene initially said that neighbor was also grazed, but we now know that isn’t the case.

A witness says the neighbor was taken into custody.

It happened around 12:53 a.m. in the 9700 block of Bratton Drive near Marbach Road on the west side of town.

Police say the family was hosting a watch party for a boxing match when a disagreement broke out between the man and his neighbor.

The neighbor became aggressive and the host asked him to leave, according to police. He refused to leave and continued arguing with the host. At some point, the suspect shot, hitting the host’s 7-year-old daughter, who was in the front yard.

She was rushed to University Hospital in critical condition. The suspect is expected to face charges.
