Children’s Ballet of SA’s Nutcracker returns to the Lila Cockrell Theatre

The Children’s Ballet of San Antonio revives The Nutcracker in December, featuring young stars, diverse dance styles, and festive activities before each show.

SAN ANTONIO — The Children’s Ballet of San Antonio is once again bringing the Nutcracker to life on the Lila Cockrell Theatre in downtown San Antonio. 

The unique production runs Dec. 12-14 and tells the classic story of the Nutcracker prince coming to life and leading Clara through the Land of Sweets in her dreams ahead of Christmas morning. The show features young dancers from across the city, including young adult rising star ballerinas in training for a professional career. The show also includes other styles of dance, gymnastics, and lavish costumes and scenery, as well as the iconic Tchaikovsky score. 

The Children’s Ballet of San Antonio was founded by prima ballerina Vanessa Bessler, who has been named Youth America Grand Prix’s Outstanding Teacher of the Year for nine straight years. The organization is known for cultivating young dance talent for future careers and its performers bring a professional-level of talent to its shows. 

Some of the award-winning rising stars performing in the show include CBSA students Daniela Quiroga, Jaida Soleman, William Bessler, Joaquin Marsh, Inez Dunne, Louise Picha, and Gigi Natho will dance the roles of Clara, the Sugarplum Fairy, and the Cavalier. 

Guests at the show can also take photos with Santa, the Sugar Plum Fairy, and other cast members, as well as do some Christmas shopping at the Nutcracker market. Those features open an hour before showtime for each show. 

The showtimes are Friday, Dec 12, 7 p.m., Saturday, Dec 13, 2 p.m., and Sunday Dec 14, 2 p.m. Click here for tickets through Ticketmaster.
