CONVERSE, Texas — Our “Forgotten Friends” series showcases a dog or cat each week that has spent a lengthy time at an area shelter, just waiting for someone to notice them and bring them home to love.
This week’s Forgotten Friend is a Chow Chow and Terrier mix named Jersey that was dumped outside of the Converse Animal Shelter back in 2014 with her litter of puppies. That was 10 years ago and Jersey has been at the shelter ever since, waiting and hoping for a home of her very own. Staff would like nothing better than for someone to choose her to bring home in time for Christmas!
“Jersey was dumped at our front gate with a litter of puppies,” said CASI staff.
She’s a shy girl and it took a few days of coaxing to catch her, but ultimately the staff gained her trust and she has been at the shelter ever since.
“At first, she wouldn’t let anyone near her and her puppies except for one of our workers who was from New Jersey,” said shelter staff. And that is how she got her name, Jersey.
Staff believe she is about 12-years-old. Once she got over her initial wariness, staff discovered she was super friendly. She may be a little shy, but warms up quickly when you give her the chance.

She did have a roommate in her kennel for many years, but that dog has sadly passed over the rainbow bridge and now Jersey is all by herself.
She gets along well with other dogs, and even likes cats.
“Jersey would do best in calm house and really just needs a place to spend to enjoy her last few golden years she has left,” said shelter staff.
She has a sweet and calm personality. She loves cuddles and really would like to sit with someone on the couch, getting petted and watching tv all day if possible.
Jersey loves her treats, but she can be very picky about exactly what type.
Jersey is spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative, up to date on her vaccines, dewormed, and current on heartworm prevention. Best of all, there is absolutely no fee to adopt her and bring her home. She will even get a Christmas stocking filled with toys and treats, thanks to a generous donor.
