Chris Paul expresses gratitude to the Spurs as he rejoins the Clippers.
SAN ANTONIO — When news surfaced that guard Chris Paul was set to rejoin the Clippers next season, he sent a thank-you message to the San Antonio Spurs, saying the franchise has “such a rich history and bright future,” among other things, on his Instagram.
“Grateful for the journey,” Paul wrote on Instagram. “Thank you to the San Antonio Spurs organization, Coach Pop, Coach Mitch, my teammates, the coaching staff, and the incredible fans for welcoming me this past season… nothing but love for the 2-1-0.”
However, Paul’s gratitude for his time with the Spurs was not limited to that post.
When the former Spurs guard was introduced to the Clippers fans, he made it a point to thank the Spurs one more time, including thanks to R.C. Buford, the Holt family, Gregg Popovich, his former teammates, and coach Mitch Johnson.
“And first and foremost to San Antonio Spurs, to the Holt family, to R.C. Buford, to Gregg Popovich, the legend himself, to Mitch Johnson, who coached up this past year, and all my teammates,” said Paul. “Thank you so much to the Spurs and their organization.”

It was inevitable that the Spurs would move on without the 40-year-old Paul at the guard spot, which now boasts reigning Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle, established star De’Aaron Fox, and No. 2 overall pick Dylan Harper.
Paul averaged 8.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, 7.4 assists, and 1.3 steals per game with San Antonio. More importantly, he left a significant positive footprint on the current rebuild.
Expect the Spurs to give him a fitting tribute video next season when the Clippers visit San Antonio.
