Cibolo man stabs himself in courtroom after 12-year sentence in child sex abuse case, officials say

Right after sentencing before bailiffs could take him into custody, officials say 60-year-old Charles Wyatt used a knife to stab himself in the neck.

CIBOLO, Texas — A 60-year-old man stabbed himself in the neck after being sentenced to 12 years in prison for several child sex abuse charges, officials say.

On Thursday in courtroom 201 in the Guadalupe County Justice Center, Charles Wyatt of Cibolo was sentenced to 12 years for continuous sexual abuse of a child, multiple counts of possession of child pornography and invasive visual recordings.

Right after sentencing before bailiffs could take him into custody, officials say Wyatt used a knife fashioned from plastic, or another non-metallic material, to stab himself several times in the neck.

Wyatt was taken to the Guadalupe Valley Regional Hospital where he was eventually airlifted to Universal Hospital in San Antonio.

Officials say Wyatt survived the injuries, but his current status is unknown at this time.

In 2023, detectives found “multiple images depicting apparent child pornography” as well as footage from hidden cameras on his computer, authorities say.
